On its plant in Meran, MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. produces ultrapure polysilicon as a base for photovoltaics panels fabrication. Their main supplier, Evonik Industries AG, has now erected its own operational building on MEMC’s productive site, in order to be able to satisfy the growing demands.
The whole functional room programme as well as a fixed floor plan were developed by Evonik Industries AG to meet their strict organisational and procedural needs. Monovolume implemented the architectural part and optimised the project from an aesthetical and functional point of view in constant cooperation with Evonik’s planning team. This resulted in a reciprocal improvement of all planning aspects, as well as in a simple and clear contemporary industrial architecture, underlined by a consequent choice of building and cladding materials.
The downmost of the building’s four storeys is inserted into the terrain, in order to guarantee barrier-free acces to both the basement and ground floor.
