The aim of the reorganisation and redesign of the station area in Meran is to create a new neat and refinded look not only of the main square at the station but also of the whole city. The existing main building, built in art nouveau style, is a characteristic feature of the city and the project shouldnʼt change that.
Till now the space was the transportation hub for cars, taxis, busses and cyclists what made it hectic and uncomfortable. Through an optimized transport planning, this situation has changed. Privat transport and commuters now ride in the underpass, so the space in front of the station can be used by pedestrian and cyclists. Only taxis and busses are allowd to cross the square, to pick up visitors of the town.
The new station area is a shared space for all ages: you can rent a bike, take a cab, go by bus, walk or just sit in the park, surrounded by mountains and enjoy the beautiful view.
