The protected façades of the existing buildings will be largely preserved as they are at present, whilst the annexe is located under the current floor level without alliterating proportions and urban qualities. The landscape flows over and through the new building, connecting the area’s different zones, over and under the ground. The new entrance to the buildings A and B is conceived to establish a clear orientation as well as to give access to all the different spaces and functions. The gradual descent of the landscape originates a new ground floor level beneath the existing structure. This heart of the whole area acts as a central meeting and crossover zone. The self service restaurant thus connects to the different functions inside the buildings. On the Ex-Magnesio site the space allocation as well as the required set-back suggest a dense high-rise construction. The dynamic shape gives the building a high recognition value. The strong link between Ex-Alumix and Ex-Magnesio is underlined by the analogue building façade design on both sites. The expressive architecture arouses associations, which will met by a physical conjunction in future.
